Yoshiko Nakachi, age 60, of Michiana Shores, died Wednesday, (Dec. 24, 2008) from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 30, at 2:00 p.m. at St Paul Lutheran Church, 818 Franklin Square, with Pastor Richard E. Poole officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until time of service on Tuesday. Carlisle Funeral Home is serving the family. Yoshiko was born July 17, 1948 in Miyako, Okinawa, Japan to Shoei and Kiku (Nahara) Shimoji. Her father preceded her in death; her mother survives in Miyako, Okinawa, Japan. Yoshiko immigrated to the United States in 1977, settling in Michiana Shores. On July 20, 1978, she married Hiroshi Nakachi in Michigan City who passed away on December 23, 2008. She is survived by her loving son, Takashi Nakachi, who was born on November 16, 1988. Also surviving are two brothers Hajimu and Hiroshi Shimoji, both of Japan; two sisters, Emiko (Herbert J.-deceased) Fisk, Lansing, MI, and Setuko (Choyu) Taira, Miyako, Okinawa Japan; brothers-in-law Tsutomu, Kenzo and Kiyoshi Nakachi, all of Japan; sisters-in-law, Chieko Tokunaga, and Junko Higa, both of Japan; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews, of Japan and the United States. Yoshiko graduated from Purdue North Central with a degree in X-Ray Technology. She was employed as a Radiological Technologist at Franklin Clinic where she worked for 14 years. She enjoyed traveling throughout the US and Japan, had a passion for gardening, and had a vast appreciation for the Art Institute of Chicago. She will be greatly missed.
