WILLIAM R. ATZHORN PETEage 82 of Valparaiso passed away Monday June 7 2010. William was married on October 22 1950 to Olga Diachuk his loving wife of 59 years who survives along with his children: Bobbie Atzhorn of Chesterton USAF Ret. Col. David (Teri) Atzhorn of FL Diane (James) Jansen of Crown Point seven grandchildren: Jessica (Devin) Keeler Jacqueline Squires Jennifer (Jacob) Rodriguez Jamie and Matthew Jansen Andrew and Aileen Atzhorn many nieces and nephews former son-in-law Donald Squires three brothers: Ray (Rosemary) Atzhorn of Indianapolis Ed (Joan) Atzhorn of Hammond Ralph (Mary Ann) Atzhorn of Zionsville IN. Preceded in death by parents Ruth and Christian Atzhorn sisters: Dorothy June and Ruth Atzhorn granddaughter Kristine Atzhorn . Bill was born March 25 1928 in Gary IN to the late Christian and Ruth Atzhorn. He attended St. Marks Catholic grade school and was a graduate of Lew Wallace High School and Indiana University Northwest Campus. He volunteered to join the U.S. Army and was stationed at Ft. Knox KY. He was a retiree of Budd Co. with 32 years of service. Bill was a financial secretary-treasurer of Budd Local 1122 for fourteen years. He taught fifth grade at Iddings School and was a clerk with the Merrillville Police Department for seven years. Bill was an avid reader golfer and poker player and also enjoyed fishing with his father and coaching Little League at Junedale. Bill was a caring husband a proud disciplining father of three and a wonderful Poppiand grandpa of seven who he enjoyed camping with.
