WILLIAM L. “LOU” “RED” HICKMAN, age 91 of Lake Dale, formerly of Hammond, left his earthly life on Monday, January 13, 2014 to join his dear, late wife, Irene, in heaven. Survived by two daughters: Dawn (Ed) Waterous of Merrillville, Wendy (Greg) Jendreas of CA; sister, Ann (Dave) Jones of CA; eight grandchildren: Scott (Noel) Plesha, Stecy (Dr. Michael) Ober, Reagen (Allan) Svihlik, Jameson Jendreas, Elisabeth Jendreas, Elliot (Colleen) Jendreas, Dr. Christopher Mecklin, Anna Dubich; 11 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, John Dubich; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by wife, Irene (nee Carlson); daughter, Candy Dubich; great-grandson, Beau Plesha. Lou and Irene married in February of 1943, ten days before reporting for active duty. Lou served his country during World War II as a decorated member of the 8th Army Air Corps Fighting 306th Bomb Group out of Thurleigh, England. After he was honorably discharged, he earned an engineering degree using the GI Bill. Lou’s love and service to his country led to his active life in politics. He designed and built their dream home in the mid-1960’s at Lake Dale. Lou worked many years at Chicago Conditionaire, retiring in the early 1990’s. Lou and Irene wintered at their South Padre, TX condo until she could no longer travel. He was a life-long animal lover, even feeding the local raccoons on a daily basis, becoming known as “Bread Man”. Lou was a member of Youche Country Club and was a member of American Legion Post #101. Family and friends may call at Pruzin & Little Funeral Service, 811 E. Franciscan Dr. (south of St. Rd. 231 on St. Rd. 55), Crown Point on Friday, January 17, 2014 from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral service will be Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. from Pruzin & Little Chapel with Rev.
