Wayne Eugene Roach, Sr. “Gene”, age 88, of Crown Point, IN, and Mesa, AZ, was called by his Lord to his Heavenly home on Sunday, January 4, 2009, at Friendship Village Hospice in Mesa, AZ. He is survived by 2 sons, Wayne Donna Roach of Tucson, AZ, and Brent Cynthia Roach of Denton, TX; 5 granddaughters; Jennifer Steve Barker, Kelly Whit Wright, Janet Scott Ferguson, Allyson Scott Berberich, and Amy Mike Wheeler; one grandson, Kyle Roach; 5 great granddaughters; Miranda, Victoria, Joy, Hadley, and Zella; sister, Juanita Robert Tucker of Hobart, IN; brothers; John Miriam Roach of San Luis Obispo, CA, James Roach of Surprise, AZ, and Gerry Rosemary Roach of Buckeye, AZ; several nieces, nephews, and cousins and a host of friends. Preceded in death by wives Marie, Reva, and Trella; father and mother, Sylvester and Jesse Roach and daughter, Elaine Roach Thomas; sister, Mardelle Spiker. Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, January 7, 2009, in Mesa, AZ and will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2009, at 10:00 AM at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre, NOTE: NEW LOCATION at 606 E. 113th Ave. 2 blocks east of Broadway, Crown Point, IN, with Pastor Don Windmiller officiating. Interment at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN. Friends may call at the Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre on Friday, January 9, 2009, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Mr. Roach was born November 3, 1920, in Strawn, IL. He was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Force in 1942 and served in the European Theater of Operations in World War II. He reached the rank of Staff Sergeant as an Electrical Specialist in the 429th Fighter Squadron, 474th Fighter Group, repairing P38 Fighter planes. He crossed the channel to Omaha Beach and hunkered down in the path of the Battle of the Bulge. His first wife, Marie, died while he was at war. He married Reva in 1946, the love of his life for 52 years. Gene and Reva started a family in Gary, IN, where they lived for 20 years, and then moved to Crown Point, IN, where they lived for 32 years. They enjoyed traveling visiting 48 states and loved spending time with their children and grandchildren. They traveled to France to celebrate the 40th anniversary of D-Day with fellow servicemen in 1984. Gene was a foreman at Standard Oil for 39 years. He was great with his hands and could create or fix just about anything. He loved food, especially homemade pie, and was a meticulous record keeper. He had a deep Christian faith and a charming personality, engaging everyone he met. After Reva's death he married Trella Gates and resided in Anaheim, CA. After her death he moved to Fellowship Square in Mesa, AZ, where he developed many close friendships. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
