Walter L. Lewis Jr., age 87, of Michigan City, departed this life for a heavenly home with God the Father on March 12, 2010 at 11:15 pm at St. Anthony Memorial Health Center. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 17, at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, his son Pastor Luster Lewis will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Burial will be at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens. Brother Walter Lewis Jr. was born to the union of Walter Lewis Sr. and Elizabeth (Owens) Lewis on May 16, 1922 in Lexingotn Mississippi, both who preceded him in death. He married Florida M. Favous who also preceded him in death. “Cat”, as Walter was lovingly called was a devoted father, grandfather, and father-in-law. He confessed a hope in Christ Jesus at an early age. In 2001 he moved to Michigan City and later united with Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. He resided in Michigan City until his death. Walter leaves to cherish his memory a daughter, Johnnie Jackson of Michigan City, three sons, Henry Lewis of LaPorte, Frank (Georgia) Lewis and Pastor Luster (Vera) Lewis of Michigan City. A sister Juanita Day of Chicago, and a brother Lonnie Lewis of Lexinton Mississippi. 25 grandchidren and a host of great and great great grandchildren. Also special nieces, Bertha Outten Friday and Christine Outten, and a special nephew James Lewis. He was preceded in death by two sons Willie and Robert. Sisters, Margaret Terry, Perile Williams, Essie Bell Johnson, Christina Lewis, and Mae Lewis. Brothers, Auster Lewis, and Esliss Lewis. Mr. Lewis was a talented and skilled carpenter. He was blessed to posses an occupation which he truly loved. He valued his family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially attending church services with them. He was a valued member of his church community, where he also taught Sunday School. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lewis Family.
