Walter J. Majcher, age 95, of Hebron, IN, formerly of Merrillville, IN, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at Methodist Hospital-Southlake Campus in Merrillville, IN. He is survived by 2 sons: Randy and Mark Majcher; grandchildren: Brian Shelly Majcher, Joey Majcher, Christine Majcher, Heather Darien Judy, Candice Mike Rosiak, Cindy Brian Randell and Christopher Majcher; 11 great-grandchildren and daughter-in-law: Kathleen Majcher. He is preceded in death by his wife, Helen; son, Walter “Jay” and parents, Kazimer and Theofilia Majcher. Funeral Prayers will be said on Monday, September 28, 2009 at 9:30 AM at Geisen Funeral Home, 624 N. Main St., Hebron, IN, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Helen's Catholic Church, 302 N. Madison St., Hebron, IN, at 10:00 AM with Fr. Derrick Dudash officiating. Interment at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN. Friends may call at the Geisen Funeral Home-Hebron on Sunday, September 27, 2009 from 2:00 to 7:00 PM. A Vigil Service will be held at 2:00 PM. Walter was a member of St. Hedwigs Catholic Church in Gary and was very active in their projects and activities. Later he became a parishioner of St. Helen's in Hebron. He was a boy scout, explorer scout and a sea scout and later helped organize Boy Scout Troup Eleven. Mr. Majcher was a lifelong member of the Polish National Alliance and the Silver Bell Club. He was a retired sign painter by trade and pioneered their first painters union. In 1949, Walter started Central Sign Company in Gary, IN. After retiring from the business he affiliated with Federal Sign, State Sign, Larry Kelly Sign, Weber Sign, Lake County Monuments, AD-Craft, Lynch, Active, Bick, Acme, Lima, and Gary Sign Companies. He served his military obligation as a Grafting Engineer in Washington D.C. Walter enjoyed fishing, boating and painting pictures. His last thoughts were of his grandchildren whom he loved very much. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to St. Helen Catholic Church.
