Virginia Murray Carter Luers, age 89, of Crown Point, IN, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 13, 2010. She was born October 27, 1920 in Dubois County, IN to the late Edward and Blanche Stevens. Her life was one of deep faith and generosity of spirit that enriched her family and touched many lives over the years. She worked in the home economics department for the Extension Service for 29 years until her retirement in 1984. Virginia was also very involved in church and civic affairs, where she taught Sunday school for many years at First Christian Church in Crown Point, and later helped to preside and participate in the women's ministry at First Presbyterian Church, Merrillville where she was a current member. She was a former president of Psi Ote Sorority, and held other offices within the Vivian Society Elks and the Homemakers Extension Club. Virginia loved to play golf and enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and ballroom dancing. Virginia is survived by her husband: A.D. “Bud” Luers, and was preceded in death by former husbands: Edward W. Murray Jr. and Jack Carter. Virginia is also survived by two sons: Bill Charlene Murray and Dick Barbara Murray; four grandchildren: Mikhail Murray, Michaile Murray Broadnax Anthony, Joshua Murray, and Jonathon Murray; three great-grandchildren: Garrett Broadnax, Jade Broadnax, and Michele Bees, along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Geisen Funeral-Cremation & Reception Centre NOTE: NEW LOCATION-2 blocks east of Broadway at 606 E 113th Ave. Crown Point, IN, with Rev. William Hudson and Pastor Michaile Broadnax officiating. Interment at Maplewood Memorial Cemetery in Crown Point, IN. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 from 2:00 to 5:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Geisen Funeral-Cremation & Reception Centre in Crown Point, IN.
