VERA B. GILEA (nee Williams), age 93 of Merrillville, passed away Monday, March 17, 2014. Survived by brother, Don (Jean) Williams, nephew, Donald (Mary) Williams; niece, Laura Williams Ramback. Preceded in death by her husband, Paul. Vera was a graduate of East Gary Edison High School, Class of 1938. She was a retired secretary from U.S. Steel Company. Vera was a member of Gary Photographic Society and Hobart Arts League. Family and friends may call at Pruzin Brothers Funeral Service, 6360 Broadway, Merrillville on Sunday, March 23, 2014 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Funeral service will be Monday, March 24, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. from Pruzin Brothers Chapel. At rest Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville.

I met Vera shortly after I got married and moved to Gary; we worked in the same building at U.S. Steel. We both had a passion for knitting; she took me to the best yarn shop in the area. That was the first of many shopping trips. As we became better friends, we included our husbands in our activities. We enjoyed their company. We loved Vera dearly and will miss her.
