TOMAS ORTIZ, age 67 of Merrillville, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2014. Survived by his wife of 50 years, Gloria; three children: Diana (Gregory) Ernst of Hobart, Celie (Mike) Ortiz-Rutkowski of GA, Alex (Ivette) Ortiz of Hammond; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother; three sisters; many nieces and nephews; and his puppy, “Baby”. Preceded in death by two children: Javier Ortiz and Sandee Gomez; and granddaughter, Erica Ortiz. Tomas was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother who will be greatly missed by many. He was a retired crane operator from LTV Steel with 38 years of service. He then worked for the Merrillville School System as a custodian for ten years. Tomas always loved his home state of Texas. Family and friends may call at Pruzin Brothers Funeral and Cremation Service, 6360 Broadway, Merrillville on Sunday, January 5, 2014 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Funeral service will follow in the Pruzin Brothers Chapel at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. Frank Torres officiating. Services to conclude at the funeral home. Memorials preferred to the family.
