Thomas J. Volk, age 77, of Long Beach, IN, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2021. Thomas was born September 6, 1943 to Walter and Henrietta Volk in Blue Island, IL.

Thomas is survived by his loving wife: Janet; son: James Volk and his wife Colleen Volk of Hermosa Beach, CA; grandchildren: Olivia and Gabriel Volk; Joshua Volk; great-grandkids: Isaiah, Josiah, and Elsie. Thomas is preceded in death by his son: Jeff Volk; parents: Walter and Henrietta; brother: Walter Volk.

Thomas was a successful commercial design/build contractor in Northwest Indiana. He proudly built Albanese Candy Factory in Merrillville, IN as well as numerous other special projects. He was a loving man who poured his heart and soul into all he did and to all those with whom he came in contact with. He was very instrumental in the community in spreading God’s message of hope and love. Thomas was a devoted husband, father, and friend and will be greatly missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.

Private family services have been entrusted to Geisen-Carlisle Funeral Home, 613 Washington St., Michigan City, IN.

Dear Jamey & Colleen, We are saddened by the news of the passing of your father. May your cherished memories of him provide comfort now and joy in the months and years ahead. Much love to you, your children, and your dear mother.

Dear Janet and Jamey, Please accept our deepest condolences. We remember Tom and your family as wonderful neighbors on Oakwood Avenue, always willing to lend a helping hand. Tom also offered his advice and help with my home projects, anything from bulldozing a new driveway to lifting in a new bay window. At that time, we were raising 5 young children and Tom, you and your boys were always so kind to them. My children idolized Jeff and Jamey. Our prayers are with you and your family. I was deeply saddened to hear of Tom's passing. I had the privilege of working for Tom for 3 years way back in 1979. Tom taught me so much back then and I always hoped our paths would cross again so I could thank him for everything I gained from the short time I worked for him. Tom was more than just a boss, he was a Freind and Mentor as well. Janet and James, I trust our Lord to provide you comfort in the days to come. Rest in peace Tom.

Tom held strong Christian convictions and he could not be any other than positive and patient. In Toms career, Tom was challenged to think very creatively. He rose to the occasion and was instrumental in creating Albanese Confectionery building. Tom was a good and loyal friend. God speed Tom, see you soon enough Scott Albanese

I was a high school classmate of Tommy’s and have fond memories of him and his sweet smile. Our paths crossed a few times through the years and he was always warm and welcoming. I saw that you lost Wally recently and years ago Carol. Now they are reunited. So sorry now for your loss of Tom.

Jamey and Janet, please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Tom was one of the few people I met and knew, who each time I interacted with him came away with a sincere desire to try to be as caring and thoughtful and nice as he was. Simply stated, he was loving to the core. Some people like people, my impression of Tom is that he sincerely loved people. He will be missed by many. The good news is that his loving heart continues in you, Jamey. God bless you and your family ....

Our heartfelt condolences to the family. Tom was a true friend & kind man to the Gary & Northwest Indiana communities. He always gave a helping hand, as well as providing counsel and mentoring to individuals in the construction trades. He was ahead of his time in architectural & construction concepts. He will surely be missed but his legacy will live on.

I will really miss my good friend, “Mr. V” who was such a great influence on me. I’ll never forget the freeway driving lessons, and how he was so positive and just plain old 100% nice. When you were with him, you’d think to yourself- “that’s how I want be, and act, and appreciate things.

A life well lived, nothing held back, a great man of God, always cheerful and loving towards anyone. Our family is saddened that his promotion to heaven was early.
