Thomas C. Van Egtern

September 12, 1938 - April 30, 2010

Thomas Van Egtern, age 71, of Crown Point, IN, passed away on Friday, April 30, 2010 at St. Anthony Medical Center. Thomas is survived by his wife: Nancy Hamady Van Egtern; 4 children: Tammy Van Egtern of Normal, IL, Sherri Van Egtern of Ypsilanti, MI, Amy Todd Wilkinson of Chanhassen, MN and Thomas A. Van Egtern Chelsea Gora of Crown Point; Grandchildren: Dr. Jason Difani Kristen Hower, Alexa Banks, Matthew, Adam and Owen Wilkinson and Biggie his furry best friend. He is preceded in death by his parents: Thomas and Lillian Van Egtern and sister, Elaine Mlodzik. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Geisen Funeral-Cremation & Reception Centre NOTE: NEW LOCATION-2 blocks east of Broadway at 606 E 113th Ave. Crown Point, IN, with Pastor Denny Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at Geisen Funeral-Cremation & Reception Centre. Mr. Van Egtern was retired, after 40 years, from U.S. Steel-Gary Works. Tom loved woodworking and cars, especially his Corvettes. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. Mrs Van Egtern and Tom I was very sorry to hear about your loss. I have many good memories of the years of friendship in Crown Point and all that your dad did with and for us. Keep your head up and know that you have the love and prayers of many people during this time. Nate Beyer

I was very sad to read about Tom's death. I have many fond memories of the years we worked together. He was a good and honest friend. My sincere sympathies to Nancy and the family.

Nancy I had heard from one of the neighbors at Wayne's funeral that Tom was ill with lung cancer and as much as I wanted to stop over to talk to you I knew this was not a good time. I'm so very sorry for your loss. Nancy you and your family have my deepest sympathy. Having gone through the loss of Wayne recently, I know you have to feel happy for Tom that he is not suffering anymore but it hurts to know you don't have him by your side to share your days. Tom was always in his garage working on something so I was impressed with his ability to do such nice work. I have no special advice for you Nancy because I'm trying to find myself now too, but know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. God bless you.
