Susan K. Sonnenberg nee Harrigan , age 91 , of Crown Point, passed away on Monday, April 26, 2010 in Crown Point. She is survived by 5 children; Roberta Sonnenberg, Allen Sonnenberg, Kathleen Rick Thomas Sonnenberg, Karleen Robert Birky, Ray Martha Sonnenberg, Daughter-in-law Diane Sonnenberg; Grandchildren Lisa Harvey, Erik Sonnenberg, Jason Rachel Sonnenberg, Geoffrey Sonnenberg, Ryan Sonnenberg, Kelli Thomas Thomas-Burnett, Adam Jennifer Keck-Birky Birky, Mellissa Joseph Sonnenberg-Chavez, Randy Kim Sonnenberg and Melanie Mike Cohen Sonnenberg; Great-grandchildren Austin, Lyric, Mallarie, Maliyah, JJ and Marley. Many nieces and nephews; Caregiver Liz Steuer. Preceded in death by husband Karl who passed away on August 10, 1962, son Charles who passed away on August 21, 1999, parents Andrew and Barbara Klem Harrigan and 8 siblings. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 30, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Geisen Funeral-Cremation & Reception Centre NOTE: NEW LOCATION-2 blocks east of Broadway at 606 E 113th Ave. Crown Point, IN, with Rev. David Kipp officiating. Interment to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, April 29, 2010 from 4 to 8 PM at Geisen Funeral-Cremation & Reception Centre. Susan was born the youngest of 9 children on February 8, 1919 in Indiana Harbor. She was a 1937 graduate of East Chicago Washington. Mom, You were a strong women.In your short years of marriage you became a wife,a widow & mother to 6. We may have not had much growing up,but we had each other. You had to take on the role of both mother & father without any help. You taught us alot about our heritage & kept us in the Lutheran faith, which our father wanted us to to be. You taught us that nothing was too hard to do. In your 91 years of life you had many tough things to face, watching your parents & all your siblings go ,but the hardest was burying your son at the young age of 44. You taught us respect & to watch out for each other which we thank you for.We may have had alot of tough times in our lives, but we also had laughter together as a family which is all you asked for.You never wanted anything for yourself, just so that your kids were all safe,healthy & happy.For all you did, we honor,love & respect you which of course you knew. We now have 3 angels watching over us & someday we will all be a family again
