Stuart J. Matheis, age 89, of Michigan City, died Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at Sterling House in Michigan City. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 20 at 1:00 p.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home with Rev. Anthony Clavier of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, LaPorte, officiating. Friends may call from noon until the time of service at the funeral home. Entombment will take place in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Michigan City. He was born August 21, 1919 in New Jersey to Aaron and Clara (Moore) Matheis, both of whom preceded him in death. On May 12, 1951 in San Antonio, TX he married Virginia B. Burnett, she preceded him in death on March 13, 1984. Surviving are his son David Burnett of Medford, OR, and sister Joan Matheis of Upper Montclair, NJ. Stuart had been employed in sales in the newspaper business. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during WWII and the Korean War. He was an avid tennis player. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.

I had many conversations with Stu in the last few months of his life.
