Shirley M. Menke, age 82, of Michigan City, died Sunday, January 10 at her home in Michigan City. Services will be held Thursday, January 14 at 1:30 p.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home with Rev. William H. Fine officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 12:30 p.m. until the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City. Mrs. Menke was born January 5, 1928 in Michigan City to George E. and Margaret (Schmuhl) Black, both of whom preceded her in death. On November 2, 1946 in Michigan City, she married Arthur L. Menke, he survives in Michigan City. Also surviving is her son Scott D. (Linda Loyd) Menke of Ft. Wayne, daughters Kristie J. (Jack) Downs and Marie (David) Stinchcomb, both of Michigan City, grandchildren Matthew Menke, Kelly Wildhart, Karie Wildhart, Erin (Landon) Peterson and Ryan Stinchcomb, great grandchildren Ian Wright and James Venice, Jr., and sister Joyce (Eugene) Neulieb of Deltona, FL. She was preceded in death by a brother, James D. Black in 1987. Mrs. Menke had been the secretary for Doug Adams at Rogers High School and also a former secretary at Joy Mfg.
