Shirley J. Mitchell (nee Zamber), age 74, of Lowell, IN, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2024.
Shirley is survived by her children: Jason Mitchell and Annmarie (Rick) Mitchell-Fath; 3 grandchildren: Delaney Mitchell, Addison Mitchell, and Richard E. Fath, III; sisters: Mary Alice (Harold) Wright, Patricia (Allen) Wisniewski; brother, Frank (Sandy) Zamber, her nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John “David” Mitchell, less than 3 months ago and her parents: Michael and Rose Zamber.
Shirley was born and raised in Chicago and was a graduate of St. Frances de Sales High School, Class of 1967. She was a retired hairdresser and cosmetologist. Shirley was a former member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Lowell, and had brief stints with the Red Hat Society, and Phi Epsilon Kappa, Beta Lambda Chapter. Her love of plants led to her becoming a Lake County Master Gardener.
Shirley was a gifted singer and loved to dance. She was a skilled, amateur chef and talented baker who shared her love of food with her family and friends. Shirley was the most loyal and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend one could ever have. She will be remembered for her strength, her ability to love deeply, her generous spirit, her irreverent sense of humor, her depth of knowledge, and her gift of listening. She will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre, 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN 46307 from 1:00 PM until the time of Memorial Service at 2:00 PM with Fr. Thomas Mischler officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in Shirley’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
