Shirley A. Fleming, age 72, of Michigan City, died Monday, Oct. 5 at the Arbors of Michigan City. A memorial service will be held Monday, Oct. 12 at 6:00 p.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4 pm until the service at the funeral home. She was born August 11, 1937 in Wabash, IN to Luther and Rheua (Woodward) Bitzel, both of whom preceded her in death. Surviving are her daughters Pamela Settles of Live Oak, FL, and Helen Starke of Indianapolis, step-father Millard Woodward of Lake Station, IN, grandchildren Cheri Johnson, Elizabeth McGraw and Sabrina Hubbard, 8 great-grandchildren, sisters Sandy Joyce of Lake Station, IN and Juanita Anglin of Elkhart, IN, special friend of over 29 years James Morrow of Michigan City, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter Kay Johnson, and sisters Betty Kinney and Addie Mullenix. Shirley was a very happy-go-lucky type of person, a free spirited soul. She had many friends over the years and liked everyone she met. She was kind and caring to all those who knew and loved her. She was willing to help anyone if she could, friends or family, it didn’t matter. She loved to dance. If she went somewhere and a band was playing – she was dancing.
