Ruth E. Ahlbrand, age 84, of Michigan City, died Thursday, February 25 at Rittenhouse Senior Living Center, Michigan City. Services will be held Saturday, February 27 at 2:00 p.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis Carroll officiating. Visitation will be from noon until the service at the funeral home. Mrs. Ahlbrand was born March 27, 1925 in Conneaut, OH to William F. and Elsie R. (Fields) Oehlenschlager, both of whom preceded her in death. On December 9, 1974 she married Arthur Ahlbrand, he preceded her in death. Surviving are her sons John (Kathy) Davis, Carmel, IN, William (Mary) Davis of Crystal Lake, IL, and daughter Peggy (John) Klein, Ft. Wayne, IN, 16 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and brother Russell (Verna) Oehlenschlager of Wooster, OH. She was preceded in death by her daughters Karen J. Davis and Patty E. Davis, and her brother Robert Oehlenschlager. She graduated from Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve, Cleveland, OH. She had many positions in nursing, obstetrics, surgery, management and administration, and past director of nursing at Memorial Hospital. Ruth enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening and bowling, She loved animals, and walks on the beach with her dog. She was a member of the Sweet Adelines. She made her first solo air flight in 1982.
