Mr. Russell C. Bruemmer , 91, of Michigan City, IN died Friday, April 3, 2009 at 11:03 P.M. at Saint Anthony Memorial Health Center. The service will be Thursday April 9, at 1:30 P.M. at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Kevin Palmer officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call at Carlisle Funeral Home on Wednesday 5-8 P.M. and at the church on Thursday from noon until the service.
Mr. Bruemmer was born in Michigan City on September 14, 1917 and was a lifetime resident. His parents Clarence and Martha Hacker Bruemmer preceded him in death. He married June 10, 1939 in Michigan City to Verna J. Maltese who died on July 10, 2005.
Surviving are daughters Karen Wilhelm of Michigan City and Nancy (John E.) Harvey of Rockford, IL and a son Norman (Pat) Bruemmer of Long Beach. Also surviving are grandchildren Paul L.(Susan)Wilhelm, III, Julie Harvey, Brian (Becky)Harvey, Kelley Bruemmer and Beau Bruemmer and 6 great grandchildren. A sister Alice and a brother Fred are deceased.
Mr. Bruemmer worked at Michiana Products for over 20 years; he retired in 1985 after 21 years as a tool and die maker from Joy Manufacturing Co.
Russell was a long time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he held several positions, past president of Aid Association for Lutherans-M.C. Chapter, S.P. E. B. S. Q. S. A., Joy Manufacturing Credit Union, and a former volunteer with Meals on Wheels. He graduated form Elston High School in 1935. He enjoyed carpentry and woodworking and was an avid fisherman who looked forward to their week-end retreats at Three Rivers, MI.
