Robert Michael McGuckin

Robert Michael McGuckin, age 78, of Valparaiso, IN, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024.

Robert is survived by his wife of 58 years, Martha J. McGuckin (nee Redar); children: Catherine McGuckin, Robert (Terryl) McGuckin, Michael (Diane) McGuckin; grandchildren: Madisen, Matthew, Natalie, Dawson; sister-in-law, Peggy (Lennertz) McGuckin; brothers-in-law: Robert (Eleanor) Redar, David (Jill) Redar, Paul Redar; cousin, Mary Kay Freis; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents: John Joseph and Catherine Patricia McGuckin (nee Henneberry); brother: John D. “Jack” McGuckin; father and mother-in-law, Francis J. and Elizabeth (nee Phillips) Redar; brother-in-law, John F. Redar; aunts and uncles: Sally Phillips, Sam Phillips, Don and Bernie Ruge.

Robert and Martha married on April 1, 1966. He was a family man, and supported his family as a mechanic, banker, and an insulator. Robert retired out of Local 17 Heat & Frost Insulators in 2001 with 28 years of service.  He enjoyed helping his family with household and vehicle repairs. Robert looked forward to watching awful Sci-Fi and action movies with family members. He loved computers, woodworking, and traveling. Robert made friends with anyone and could talk to anybody about anything. He had many wonderful friends, of a special note – Jo Ann Coates.

Robert’s family would like to send sincere appreciation to the Doctors, Nurses, and Staff of Northwest Health, ICU Floor 2500, who provided comfort and care to Robert and his family.

Arrangements are entrusted to Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre.

Per Robert’s request a private Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
