Richard W. Harley Sr., of Hebron, IN, age 70, lost his battle with cancer on Saturday, September 19, 2009. He was born on March 19, 1939 in Lakewood, OH. He was a graduate of Port Clinton High School and served in the Army from 1958 to 1961. While working for General Telephone, Rich moved to Gary, IN where he met and married Jackie. The family later moved to Hebron, IN where Richard lived for 35 years. He was employed by US Steel for nearly 40 years, working as a crane man and retired in 2003. Richard was a member of St. Helen�s Catholic Church in Hebron and was a frequent visitor to St. Patrick�s Catholic Church in Chesterton. Over the years, Richard enjoyed roller skating, bowling, bicycling, wood working, and science fiction books and movies but his most cherished hobby was model railroading. During his illness, Richard took part in an IU Medical Center cancer study so as to help others suffering from pancreatic cancer. A loving husband and caring father, Richard is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jacqualynn Wilk his 5 children: Cheryl Lewis Roberts of Fort Wayne, Patricia Paul Neely of Chesterton, Richard Melissa of Portage, , Cynthia of Hebron, and Timothy of California, one brother Thomas E. Harley of Illinois and 8 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas O. and Marian Beardsley and brother, Robert. Funeral prayers will be said on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 9:15 AM at Geisen Funeral Home, 624 N. Main St., Hebron, IN followed by a Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Helen Catholic Church, 302 N. Madison St., Hebron, IN, with Fr. Derrick Dudash officiating, cremation to follow.
