Richard P. Fleming, age 84, of Trail Creek, died Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at Regency Hospital, Portage. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 21 at 1:30 p.m. at Carlisle funeral Home. Visitation will be Monday from 3 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City with full military rites by VFW Post #2536 & American Legion John Franklin Miller Post 37. A VFW #2536 and American Legion memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. and Acme Lodge #83 F & AM memorial service will follow at 7:00 p.m.
He was born October 21, 1924 in West Lebanon, PA to Charles and Agnes Fleming, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Norma L. Hilty on October 2, 1948, she preceded him in death on July 13, 1974. He married Mary Veneklasen on March 9, 1985, she survives in Trail Creek.
Also surviving are sons Richard (Karen) P. Fleming, Jr. and Robert C. (Pamela) Fleming, both of LaPorte; daughter Rhonda L. Fleming of Prundale, CA; stepchildren Pamela (Joe) Gonzales of Union Pier, MI, Mark (Christine) Veneklasen of Lakeside, MI, 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and brother Wilmer Fleming. He was preceded in death by 8 brothers and sisters.
Richard had been employed as a field service representative with Joy Mfg. for 30 years. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving during WWII in the Pacific Theatre.
He was a life member of Elks Lodge BPOE #432, and a Lifetime member of VFW Post #2536, American Legion John Franklin Miller Post #37, Moose Lodge #980, Acme Lodge No. 83 F & AM, and Orak Temple, where he was a member of the Orak Temple Oriental Band.
