To the family...we send our prayers. To Mr. Barnett...(I never quite comfortable with calling you Dick), we send a poem, by Ralph Waldo Emerson WHAT IS SUCCESS? To laugh often and much; to win the respect of the intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better wheather by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that one life has breathed easier becaused you lived here. This is to have succeeded. Mr Barnett, you have succeeded. Rest easy in your accomplishments -so many loved you - so many will miss you.

To the family and friends of Dick Barnett, What seems like a few years ago, I can remember my childhood days spent at Uncle Dick's, which happens to be about 24 years ago! Three rural Valparaiso boys (Spratley's) got to experience life in the city, at least it was a major metropolis to us. We didn't know any different but we could always count on Uncle Dick for love, protection and security. Something to be said for coming from the "sticks" with minimal cultural diversity. I drove by many times taking the back roads to Light House Mall and every time I would be quick to point out where Uncle Dick's house is, never stopping to say Hi, but always looking to see if I could see him outside. I figured, next time....next time...next time. Sadly and regretfully, I have missed my opportunity. Life goes by so fast. Please know that I think of all of you often. Please except our condolences and know that our prayers are with you. May God be with you during these very difficult times. With Love, Brett and Gina Spratley
