Richard D. Barnett, age 66, of Michigan City, died Sunday, May 10, 2009 at St. Anthony Memorial Health Care Center, Michigan City. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 14, at 10:00 a.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home, with Rev. Tom Dewlen officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 13 from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in White Post Cemetery, Medaryville, IN.
Mr. Barnett was born October 17, 1942 in Alger, OH to Rudy and Maudie (Wireman) Barnett, both of whom preceded him in death.
Surviving are sons Richard and Rodney Barnett, both of FL, daughter Stephanie Cibak of Michigan City, son Brian Barnett of Michigan City, daughters Mandy Barnett of Indianapolis and Sarah Barnett of Michigan City, 10 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, sister Judy (Al) Risner of Michigan City, brothers Vern Kathy) Barnett of Monticello, IN; Jack (Joann) Barnett of Medaryville, IN; David (Gail) Barnett of Valapariso, IN, and sister Pamela (Bill) Manns of Rensselaer, IN, and former spouses Joyce Schlehuber of Alanson, MI, Patricia Zimpfer of Michigan City, and Mary Ann Barnett of Schaumberg, IL. He was preceded in death by brother Charles Barnett and former spouse Sandra Debre.
Mr. Barnett had been an operating engineer with Midwest Operating Engineers Local #150. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Richard was an avid outdoorsman, and took great pride in taking care of his lawn. He was a faithful White Sox and Celtics fan. He was a member of American Legion Posts John Franklin Miller #37, and Skwiat Post #451. He was a loving and devoted family man who adored his children and grandchildren. He was well loved by everyone, especially by those who knew him well such as his family, friends, and neighbors.
