I joined Zion Lutheran Church in Peoria Illinois has a junior high kid. Pastor Knappe was a steady role model for all of us in the Luther league--and he made me a better man. I recall in those days (1960), that his father assisted him in Sunday services.

My deepest sympathy to his family. He was a great pastor and spiritual leader for St. Paul Church. Had a wonderful smile for everyone, was under his time at St. Paul that the pictorial directory started and the sanctuary was redone. I am glad he considered St. Paul his home church and will have his funeral and burial in Michigan City. God bless you all. Joan Coughlin

Richard & Louise Konkey left a message on May 18, 2011:
Pastor K came to St Paul at a time when we were going thru major problems in the congregation. We were in great need of healing and he brought us to trust God more than we ever had before. He brought healing that we needed desperately. He became my third best friend. (God, Louise, then Pastor K) I was in a leadership position and spent many hundreds of hours in private conversation and fellowship with him. I have prayed many times for him and I thank God that he was in my life and fed me and the congregration the word of God. He was gentle, but to the point. In his first week at St Paul he burried my grandmother, Mary Bohnstadt. She was either the first or second funeral he presided over after he came into our midst. Pastor K touched five generations of our family's life: My grandmother, my parents funerals, rededication of vows for Louise and my 25th anniversary, our sons confirmations, and our grandson's baptism. I will never forget him or the love that he gave to all he encountered. I loved him and I will miss him. May God bless his soul. Richard & Louise Konkey
