Raymond C. Fox, age 86, of Michigan City, died Tuesday, December 15 at St. Anthony Memorial Health Care Center. Funeral services will be Friday, December 18 at 1:30 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Kevin Palmer officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, December 17 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home and from 12:30 until the service Friday at church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City with full military rites by VFW Post 2536. He was born June 17, 1923 in Chicago to Harold and Linnea (Malm) Fox, both of whom preceded him in death. On March 16, 1946 in Michigan City he married Vera R. Deutscher, they were married 61 years, she passed away November 9, 2007. Surviving are his daughters Kay (Carl) Bowmar of Orange Park, FL, Mary (Bruce) Hoppe of Michigan City, son Richard R. Fox of LaPorte, Grandchildren Teri Bowmar, Ann Burns, Jennifer Bowmar, Katherine Hoppe, Eric Hoppe, Jamin, Jared and Joy Fox, great grandchildren Coleman and Elijah Burns, Michael and Mallory Hoppe, sisters Eleanor Kennedy of Michigan City, Alice (Raymond) Fear of LaPorte, and Haroldine (Walter) Hatton of New Buffalo, along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson Kyle Fox. Ray had been a foreman with Inter Royal until his retirement in 1981 He was an active member of the AFL-CIO during his employment, holding several positions. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army/Air Force serving during WWII in India and China where he earned many medals, including one from the Chinese government for helping rescue a Chinese Division that was surrounded by the Japanese. He was a member of the China Burma India Organization, Coolspring Farm Bureau and Coolspring Institute, the Coolspring Democratic Club, and VFW Post #2536.
