Phyllis E. Ross

June 8, 1927 - March 24, 2009

Phyllis Elaine Dillabaugh Ross, age 81, was born on June 8, 1927, and passed from this life on March 24, 2009, at home surrounded by her children. She was a life-long resident of the Crown Point area and was preceded in death by Donald J. Ross, her husband of nearly 47 years; her parents, Ellis G. Dillabaugh and Loraine E. Shay Dillabaugh; and a brother, Howard Lynn Dillabaugh. Phyllis was a loving wife and mother and she worked for 20 years as a secretary in the Crown Point Schools. She is survived by her son, Jerry L. Karen Ross of Friendswood, TX; daughters, Judi E. Michael Futa, of Granger, IN, and Janet R. William Rattazzi, of Crown Point, IN; and brothers, Donald Joyce Dillabaugh, of Keene, NH; Ellison Louise Dillabaugh, of Crown Point, IN; and Grant Dillabaugh, of Butler, PA; grandchildren- Amy Ross, Scott Faith Ross, Adam Amber Futa, Matthew Futa, Michael Futa, Scott Futa, John Futa, Joseph Rattazzi and Amanda Rattazzi; great-grandchildren- Cassidy Ross, Katie Ross, Emily Ross, and Aiden Futa. She was a long-time member of the Leroy Fidelis Club and she enjoyed her dogs, painting china, making ceramics, playing pinochle, and walking and swimming with friends. She was an active member of her church's Prayer Chain and a founding member of the Challenger Learning Center of Northwest Indiana. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 28, at 10:00 AM at First United Methodist Church, 352 S. Main St., Crown Point, IN with Pastors Mark Wilkins and Thomas Shanahan officiating. Friends may call at the Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre, NOTE: NEW LOCATION at 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN 2 blocks east of Broadway on Friday, March 27, 2009, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM and at the church on Saturday, March 28, 2009, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM. Interment will be in the City of Crown Point Historic Maplewood Cemetery, Crown Point. Phyllis was deeply devoted to God and her family and was a loving, caring role model for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Condolences to the family. Phyllis was a lovely person. I knew her through Crown Point Schools library meetings. I worked at Winfield Elementary. Remembering her and those years fondly.

Dear Jan I just read about your mom this morning Sat. in the paper. I am so sorry for your great loss. Your mom went through so much and you were with her every step of the way. My heart is with you during this most difficult time. My condolences to your whole family.

I went to high school and graduated with Phyllis. She was a very nice & good person. I'm glad that we knew each other. My prayers and sincere sympathy are with the family.

Dear Ross Family, Joe & I had planned on coming this Friday but Joe has come down with something, the flu perhaps, and is so very weak that I am afraid to leave him. Your mom had planned to volunteer tutor adults at the Crown Point Adult Learning Center several years ago but was battling her cancer then so she was never able to do it. I greatly appreciated her calling me to find out about it and also about our stamping our envelopes with In God We Trust. And we trust Him to enfold you three and your families in His Gracious Arms.

Sorry that I won't be able to attend the visitation or the funeral. I have so many fond memories of Aunt Phyllis. She was always such a pleasant caring person. I'll keep the family in my prayers during this period of grieving. At least now she can be at peace with the Lord.

Ruth and I had every intention of being w/you at the funeral, but I have come down w/the flureal bad. Aunt Phyllis was always Aunt Phu to me. Some of the fondest menories from childhood was the way she showed she loved me. Jerry thanks for bringing your Mother to our home and seeing my Dad. Judi and Janet it was always exciting to see you with your Mother. We will greatly miss your Mother.
