Norma “Jean” Christensen, age 83, of Michigan City, died Sunday, June 14, 2009 at her residence, with her loving family at her side. . Funeral services will be held at 11:00 on Wednesday June 17, 2009 at Carlisle Funeral Home with the Rev. William H. Fine officiating. Friends may call on Carlisle Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and again from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday. Entombment will be conducted at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Christensen was born December 7, 1925 in Michigan City to Walter and Norma (Ditto) Alsleben, both of whom preceded her in death. On November 24, 1949 in Michigan City, she married Raymond W. Christensen, he preceded her in death on July 21, 1985. Surviving are a daughter Gail (Robert) Satterfield of Charlotte, NC and son Glen (Ligia) Christensen of North Aurora, IL. Grandchildren Karen Christensen of Lisle, IL, Ryan Christensen of Phoenix, and Matthew Satterfield of Greensboro, NC, sister Thelma Hubertz and nephews Mark (Teresa) Hubertz and Jack (Brenda) Hubertz of Michigan City.
She was preceded in death by brother-in-law Loren Dale Hubertz, and nephew Alan Hubertz.
Mrs Christensen had been district secretary with Equitable Life Assurance Co. for 10 years until her retirement. She was a life long, active member of St. Johns’s United Church of Christ, a volunteer and past treasurer and vice president of the St. Anthony Memorial Guild, a Red Cross bloodmobile volunteer, member of the Michigan City Senior Center, and Prime Timers of First Presbyterian Church. She had bowled in local leagues and loved all sports, and was an avid Cubs fan. She enjoyed traveling and in May 2008 she fulfilled her lifelong dream to take an Alaskan cruise. She was very strong in her faith and was an inspiration to her family during her terminal illness.
