Michael J. Kubath, age 60, of Trail Creek, died Sunday, June 21, 2009 at the Arbors of Michigan City. Services will be held Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. at the Valparaiso Mennonite Church, 1305 Silhavy Rd., Valparaiso, IN with Pastor Mario Bustos officiating. Burial of ashes will take place at Hopewell Cemetery, Kouts, IN at a later date. Carlisle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Michael was born June 27, 1948 in Michigan City to Robert and Virginia (Novak) Kubath, both of whom preceded him in death. On December 16, 1990, in Valparaiso, he married Carolina Bustos, she survives in Trail Creek.

Also surviving is his daughter Vanessa (Dana) Lechtenberg of Waterloo, IA, granddaughter Emmalene Ruby Lechtenberg, brothers Dan (Kim) Kubath of Michigan City, Brian (Nancy) Kubath of Otis, IN; and Jeff Flannagan of Michigan City, and sisters Patty Steele of Michigan City and Roberta (Brian) Sandburg of Michigan City.

Michael was a certified auto instructor at Westville Correction Center for over 20 years.

He was a member of the Valparaiso Mennonite Church. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather Memorial contributions may be made to the family c/o Carlisle Funeral Home.

As a fellow teacher, I was always amazed by Mike's stamina; he continued working way beyond what most people would have, even when he didn't feel well. And his cheery demeanor was matched by no one.
