October 11, 1952 - May 14, 2009

Michael Holland, age 56, of Michigan City, died Thursday, May 14, 2009 at his home in Michigan City. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 19 at 6:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Don Dempsey officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until the service at the church. Ashes will be interred in Rives, TN. Michael was born October 11, 1952 in Union City, TN to Frank E. Holland and Sara (Fullerton) Holland Cole. His father preceded him in death, his mother survives in Michigan City. Also surviving are brothers and sisters Maria (Wink) Bowen of Andrews, SC, Frank (Holly) Holland of Wappapello, MO, Cindi (Robert) Reed of Cabot, AR, uncle Ben Holland of Imperial, MO; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his step-father Lonnie Cole and sister Pamela Jones. He attended Elston Sr. High, graduating in 1970 and also attended Indiana State University. Michael had been a coding specialist at Lakeland Medical Center in St. Joseph, MI. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Nimitz. He enjoyed reading and early classical music. He was a member of the American Mensa Society, the VFW Post #2536 and MHIMA. I remember that Mike had a wry sens of humor. At a northwest Indiana Mensa get-together about 12 years ago people were talking about how the group was getting older, and with a wry smile Mike said "I still come."

I have not seen Michael since High School in Michigan City. But I remember him as clearly as yesterday. He was a good friend to allwho knew him, especially in the band. Pleasse have all my sympathy and condolences. James H. Williams

I'm so sorry for your loss. Mike was a co-worker and friend. We shared many interesting conversations about his life nad experiences. I teased and chastised him often as friends do. He spoke often of his family and mostly his mother. I Spoke to him about his planned trip out and west and It comforts me that I got to wish him well at our last conversation.

I was very sad to hear of Mike's passing. I had the pleasure of seeing him at meetings at Lakeland, where we would often "poke fun at each other". Mike had a unique sense of humor and was a very kind person. I always enjoyed talking with him. I will truly miss him.
