Maynard Louis Lou Gergely, Sr., age 85, of Crown Point, IN, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2009 at Wittenberg Lutheran Village in Crown Point, IN. He is survived by his wife, Theresa Terry of 59 years, children, Lou Jr. Marla Gergely, Dale Tina Gergely, Glenn Susan Gergely, Cheryl Ed Siminski, and Tim Susan Gergely, grandchildren, Lindsey, Wesley Mieka, Jolene Justin Greenhaugh, Nicholas Jenny, Ryan Jenni, Jason, Bryce, Kimberly, Scott Kelly, Chad, Kacey, and Alex, great-grandchildren, Jordan Siminski, Addison Siminski, Ella Greenhaugh, and Lela Gergely. He is preceded in death by his parents, Maynard and Elisabeth, son, David, and sisters, Betty Gard and Lois Mako. Funeral prayers will be said on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 9:30 AM at Geisen Funeral-Cremation & Reception Centre NOTE: NEW LOCATION-2 blocks east of Broadway at 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, 321 E. Joliet St., Crown Point, IN, with Fr. Pat Kalich officiating. Interment at St. Mary's Cemetery in Crown Point, IN. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at Geisen Funeral-Cremation & Reception Centre from 2:00 to 5:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Lou was employed at Sears Roebuck for 35 years as a serviceman and service department manager. He was a World War II veteran participating in the 101st Calvary Squadron Reconnaissance in Europe. He was also a Boy Scout leader and worked with the Civil Defense. Lou was an avid woodcarver which brought him many years of joy. He belonged to the Duneland Woodcarvers, South Suburban Chislers, and Caloosa Wood Carvers in Ft. Meyers, FL. He also taught woodcarving in Bonita Springs, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the David Gergely Scholarship Fund in the name of Lou Gergely.
