Mary A. Haskins, age 84, of Michigan City, died Thursday, March 12, 2009 at her home in Michigan City. Services will be held Monday, March 16 at 2:00 p.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home, With Pastor Dennis Carroll officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial of ashes will take place in Greenwood Cemetery at a later date. was born March 8, 1925 in Michigan City to Walter E. and Grace M. (Butler) Coursel, both of whom preceded her in death. On December 22, 1972 in Michigan City she married Robert Haskins, he preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 1998 Surviving are daughters Linda Biederstadt, Judith (Robert) Caddo, Joanne (Al) Sydow, all of Michigan City, and Jeannie (David) Killingbeck of Yale, MI; grandchildren Mary Dube, Georgia March, John Pawloski, Cindy Pawloski, Christine Caddo, Jill Humbers, Alan Sydow, Jennifer Spencer, Sean, Jason and Ian Killingbeck, 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild, sisters Helen Berndt of Valparaiso, Bertha Harper of Niles, MI, Marjorie (Harold) Wood of North Liberty, IN, and Margaret Lewis of Michigan City, brothers Wallace (Pat) Coursel of Westville, Alfred (Cookie) Jumche of LaPorte, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ann Howard in 2000, 3 brothers, Albert, Robert and Fred Coursel, and former husband John H. Pritz. Mrs. Haskins was a kind, selfless matriarch of her family. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, cooking and baking for her large family, and her friends. Mary lived many years in Nottawa, MI. She enjoyed fishing, especially with her grandchildren. Her quick wit, laughter, and kindness to all will be greatly missed. There was always a cup of coffee ready for anyone stopping in for a visit. She was her own person, independent, proud and much loved. Memorial contributions may be made to donor’s choice.
