Marvin G. Marty, age 91, of Michigan City, former long time resident of Portage, died Monday, June 8, 2009 at St. Anthony Memorial Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 11 at 1:00 p.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home, with Pastor Mark Reshan officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the service at the funeral home. Entombment will take place in Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso. Mr. Marty was born September 27, 1917 in Kidder County, ND to George and Pauline (Spitzer) Marty, both of whom preceded him in death. Surviving are sons Marvin G. Marty, Jr. of Portage, IN, John (Lee) Marty of Ocala, FL, Jerald Marty of Valparaiso, IN, James Marty of Princeton, KY, Gene (Carol) Marty and Joseph Marty, both of Michigan City, daughter Joan Hammerstein of Portage, IN, grandchildren Natalie, Elizabeth, Tony, Krystal, Angela and Kimberly, brothers Lawrence Marty of Torrance, CA, and Dale Anderson of Sedalia, MO. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Colanto, and sisters Violet and Velma.
Mr. Marty had been an ironworker with American Bridge of East Chicago, and as a member of Ironworkers Union Local #510, he worked out of Local #395. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Germany during WWII.
