Marilyn J. Smith, age 77, of LaPorte, died Monday, May 3 at VNA Hospice, Valparaiso, IN. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 5 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home. The service will be Thursday, May 6 at 11;00 a.m. at Michigan City Christian Church with Pastor Kim Cole officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City. Marilyn was born May 30, 1932 in Gary, IN to Frank A. and Meta I. (Ogelsby) Field, Sr., both of whom preceded her in death. On July 6, 1956 in Michigan City she married Gerald Lee Smith, he passed away Sept. 21, 2000. Surviving is her son Howard A. (Gabriella) Smith, daughter Melissa A. Smith, both of LaPorte, granddaughter Hannah Maria Joan Smith; brother Frank A. Field Jr., of Michigan City, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter Mary Elizabeth Smith. Mrs. Smith had been a homemaker. She was a 1950 graduate of Elston High School. She enjoyed reading, cooking, the outdoors and nature. She also enjoyed spending time in Fawn Lake, MN. Memorial contributions may be made to Michigan City Christian Church.

Howard and Melissa, I loved, and still love, Marilyn with all my heart. Your Mom added so much fun and laughter to this earth! what wonderful memories we all have of her and her contagious laugh! Such a thoughtful and loving person as well. She will be dearly missed by everyone. Know that all of your friends are here for the two of you and we love you.

My heart goes out to the family. I've been so lucky in knowing Marilyn for lots of years. She was there for me when I lost loved ones..She will always be in my thoughts when I go and visit my daughters grave which is by her daughters.
