Marilyn Ann Hawrylewicz (nee Hargrave) passed away peacefully on April 6, 2024, in Michigan City, Indiana, at the age of 94.
She was born on September 28, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois, to John Vincent and Kathryn Mary Hargrave.
Marilyn was married to Ervin John Hawrylewicz on June 11th, 1950. They made their home in Olympia Fields, where they raised their four children. They retired in Beverly Shores, Indiana, where they were active in their community, and enjoyed the beautiful lakefront of the Indiana Dunes. Marilyn loved tennis, the arts, her book club, travel and visits from her family.
Marilyn was a graduate of the Art Institute of Chicago and pursued her passion for art throughout her life. An accomplished artist, her work in fiber art and weaving was highly regarded, often commissioned, and displayed in various art shows. She was a member of the Weaver’s Guild of Beverly Shores.
She is survived by her loving children: Claudia Hawrylewicz, Chris Hawrylewicz (Roxanne), Peter Hawrylewicz (Kenny Lieber), and Cindy Matchinis.
Marilyn was a cherished grandmother to Alicia Schmitt (John), Carrie Fults (Jim), Todd Balousek (Crystal), Jessica Ford (Finn), Mandy Perez (Tony), Ben Balousek (Jen), Ashley Eichmann (Martin), Zach Balousek, Allison Black (Chris), Kellie Gander (Joey), and 20 great-grandchildren: Alex, Jacob, Ethan, Parker, Macy, Nora, Jackson, Annabelle, Maddyn, Molly, Elison, Harlan, Tessa, Payton, Brody, Lila, Juliana, Nolan, Bennett and Conrad.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, John Vincent and Kathryn Mary Hargrave; her siblings, Jack Hargrave and Karen Walsh; and her beloved husband, Ervin John Hawrylewicz.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date to honor and celebrate Marilyn’s life. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
