Lottie Kubiak

LOTTIE ( WLADZIA) S. KUBIAK (nee Wawrzyniak) age 92 a life time resident of the area passed away Saturday June 11 2011. Survived by sister Angeline (late Walter) Kubic of Lansing IL nieces: Joanne Szklarski of Merrillville Dianne (Dennis) DeChantal of Munster Velma (late Joseph) Keough of Gary Charlotte (Tom) Neidow of Portage Cathy Sutherland of Valparaiso Barbara Kubiak of Gary & Elizabeth (Tim) Swank of St. Louis MO nephews and Godson Larry (Donna) Kubic of Beaver Island MI Richard (Kat Marlow) Kubic of Highland Danny Pundrich of Merrillville Bob Deliget of Merrillville & Andrew Kubiak of Gary many great-nieces & nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by husband Chester L. Kubiak on December 30 2002 parents: Felix & Sophie Wawrzyniak sisters: Marie Biernat Regina Pundrich Sally Sutherland and Cecilia Sokolowski. Mrs. Kubiak was a member of St. Hedwig Catholic Church. Lottie graduated from St. Hedwig Parochial School in 1933 and from Froebel High School in 1937. She attended business courses at Indiana University and Patricia Stevens Modeling & Secretarial School in Chicago. Lottie belonged to Madame Curie Circle PNA Lodge #3134 where she served as its first president and later as secretary and later again as current president. She was a delegate to Council 127 PNA she was the Lady Commissioner of PNA District 15 serving two 4-year terms and was elected to many PNA National Conventions. Lottie was also a member of Group 815 of the PWA and Group 337 of the PRCUA. She was past Regent of the Daughters of Isabella Bishop Noll Circle #359 a life time member of the Chopin Chorus and member of the Polish American Congress Indiana Division. Lottie worked at Linde Air and the Graham Lumber in East Chicago. Later she was the Executive Secretary to the manager of the Accounting Department and later secretary to the Superintendent of Environmental Control at U.S. Steel Gary Sheet & Tin Mill for 20 years. In 1975 Lottie was the first woman to be elected National Secretary of the Polish National Alliance the largest Polish Fraternal Organization in the U.S.A. She held this position for 8 years retiring in 1983 when she received the Gold Cross of the Legion of Honor the highest award given in the PNA national office. Lottie and her late husband Chester co-hosted a weekly hour long Polish language radio program over the facilities of WLTH 1370 A.M. in Gary which was started by Chesters brother the late T. Stanley Kubiak. After 15 years of broadcasting they retired on February 27 1994. Family and friends may call at Pruzin Brothers Funeral Service (6360 Broadway Merrillville) on Tuesday from 2-8 P.M. There will be a PNA service and Queen of Peace Service at 3:00 P.M. Daughters of Isabella service at 3:15 P.M. and a prayer service at 6:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held Wednesday June 15 2011 at 9:30 A.M. from Pruzin Brothers Chapel and 10:00 A.M. from Our Lady of Czestochowa Shrine (5755 Pennsylvania St. Merrillville) with Rev. Joseph Zuziak and Rev. Walter Pawlak officiating. At rest Calvary Cemetery Portage.
