Lester Vincent Kaper, age 86, of Cedar Lake, IN, passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at his home. He is survived by his wife, Elsie of 63 years; 2 children, Charlie Marilyn Kaper of Cedar Lake and Denise Daryl Dust of Cedar Lake; 3 grandchildren, LesLee and Lauren Kaper and Michael Naomi Dust; 2 great-grandchildren, Nathaniel and Patrick and brother, Norman Kaper of California. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 11, 2010 at 11:30 AM at Geisen Funeral-Cremation & Reception Centre, NOTE: NEW LOCATION – 2 blocks east of Broadway at 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN with Pastor Thomas Shanahan officiating. Interment at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville, IN. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 10, 2010 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM with an American Legion service at 3:30 PM and a Masonic service at 4:00 PM at Geisen Funeral-Cremation & Reception Centre. Mr. Kaper was a member of Cedar Lake United Methodist Church and former owner of Kaper Excavating. Lester was a school bus driver for the Crown Point Community School Corporation for over 25 years and Cedar Lake Police Commissioner for 12 years. He was a Master Mason of Colfax Lodge F & AM 378 Lowell 32nd Degree Mason, a member of Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, an Army Veteran of World War II, and a member of the Cedar Lake American Legion Post 261. Lester enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting, and vegetable gardening and was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
