June Arlene Barber (nee Scott), age 76, of Crown Point, IN, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.
June was born on January 24, 1947, in Indianapolis, Indiana. She is survived by her son, John Barber, Jr. and daughter, Jennifer Bubp (Barber); grandsons: Josh, Brett, and Caden Bubp; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents: Melvin H. Scott and Annabelle (Richards) Scott Williams; husband, John Barber, Sr.; and brother, Melvin Scott, Jr.
June was a 1965 graduate of Northwest High School. She went on to graduate with honors earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from DePauw University in 1969, where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. June was chosen to be a princess on the Indianapolis 500 court where the love of her life, John “Jack” Barber, Sr., proposed to her. They were married on September 2, 1967. They moved to San Diego, where she worked as a teacher in mathematics while he served in the Navy. They moved back to Indiana to raise their family in Crown Point. She went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Mathematics from Purdue University in 1983 and continued to tutor students and teach at Crown Point High School. June enjoyed playing bridge, traveling with her close friends, spending time with grandkids, playing golf, gardening, and leading various groups and projects at her church. She was a dedicated and faithful servant of God and member of Southlake Christian Church. She was dearly loved by family and friends who will remember her for her kind and tenacious spirit.
Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre, 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN 46307 from 12:00 PM until the time of Funeral Service at 2:00 PM with Pastor Perry McLemore officiating. Interment will be private for the family at Maplewood Memorial Cemetery in Crown Point, IN.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in June’s name to Southlake Christian Church, 501 Pratt St., Crown Point, IN 46307 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
