Joseph Max Michaels, 81, of Michigan, formerly of Chicago, died Monday morning, April 13, 2009. Born November 7, 1927 in Chicago, Joe served in the Navy during WWII and graduated from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Having lost his parents at 21, Joe became the head of his family, looking out for his sisters and brothers best interests his whole life. Joe worked his whole career in the scrap metal business; He was Senior Vice President of Hyman-Michaels, President of Great Lakes Shipping and then CEO of his own company, Micor International. He was a world traveler and was fluent in a number of languages. He loved art, music and history. He loved to make people laugh. He was an avid bridge player, piano player and fisherman. Joe was the dearly beloved husband of Vicki Ann, devoted brother of Barbara Weinstock and Stephen Michaels; loving father of Beth (Dale) Primer, Wendy (Tara Pinchal), and Gregory; dear grandfather of Lisa and David Primer; uncle to nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by daughters Sandra Lynn and Kimberly Joy. Services will be held at Sinai Temple in Michigan City, Indiana at 11 am (Indiana time) on Thursday, April 16th. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Make-a-Wish Foundation or Sinai Temple.
