John M. Zallas, age 64, of Michigan City, died Wednesday, July 22 at 8:07 a.m. at LaPorte Hospital. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. John was born October 25, 1944 in Michigan City to Michael J. and Bertha M. (Gilbreath) both of whom preceded him in death. On December 8, 1962 in Michgian City he married Jennifer Paxton, she survives in Michigan City. Also surviving are his daughters Jody (Terry) Schultz, Paula (Tony) Nieman, and Amy Zallas, all of Michigan City, grandchildren Ryan and Chad Schultz; and Zachary, Jordan and Noah Nieman, sisters Joanne Zallas and Maxine Kietzman, both of Michigan City, and many nieces and nephews John had been an inspector with U.S. Steel for 35 years. He was a 35 year member of United Steel Workers of America, and also a griever for the union. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and friend.
