JOHN E. SOBCZAK age 99 of Merrillville passed away Thursday January 1 2009.Survived by son John R. Sonny(Cynthia) Sobczak of Merrillville two grandchildren: Justine (Jim) Hopp of Portage Chris (Susan) Sobczak of Hebron two great grandchildren: Christopher and Jessica Sobczak of Hebron two sisters: Pauline (Ted) Trzeciak of AZ Frances (late Joe) Pawlik of Merrillville two brothers: Walter (Stella) Sobczak of Mishawaka IN Matthew (Florence) Sobczak of Portage. Preceded in death by wife Wanda two brothers: Edward and Joseph Sobczak one sister Mildred Kramer.John was a longtime member of St. Hedwig Church where he also ushered. He was a longtime member of PNA Lodge 2365 Silver Bell Club and PRCUA Lodge 337. He was a retired inspector from the Merchant Mills Gary Works U.S. Steel with 45 years of service. He helped with the Sr. League World Series at Junedale Little League and was an avid golfer.Friends may call at Pruzin Brothers Funeral Service 6360 Broadway Merrillville Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m: Silver Bell Service at 3:30 p.m. Funeral service will be Tuesday January 6 2009 at 9:15 a.m. from Pruzin Brothers Chapel and 10:00 a.m. from St. Hedwig Catholic Church 1737 Connecticut St. Gary with Msgr. John Siekierski officiating. At rest Calumet Park Cemetery Merrillville.

Sonny I was so sorry to hear about the passing of your Dad. I always enjoyed talking to him as he always was so personable well presented and was just an all-around neat guy. He will definitely be missed. Sincerely Mark Kazmucha

John was a dear member of our seniors at Merrillville High School. He loved to laugh play the harmonica and dance. We enjoyed and admired him so much over the years. He was a wonderful friend to all of us and will be dearly missed. Respectfully submitted Peggy Mickles

John and Cindy: It is a sad morning. Both my wife and I offer you are condolences at the passing of Johns dad. He was such a special man. I was always so proud of him when he would bring his wife to the hospital for care. His pride and care of her was always noted and I was proud of his Polish heritage and to say that I knew him. May his soul rest in peace and may you find comfort in the knowledge of a life well lived. John and Beverly Boguslawski.
