John D. Bartos Sr.

JOHN D. BARTOS SR age 90 of Crown Point formerly of Merrillville passed away Sunday May 17 2009. Survived by his loving wife of 62 years Theresa (nee Brazauskas) two sons: John David (Diana) Jr. of Crown Point Michael (Nancy) Bartos of Hobart daughter Kimberly (James) Larsen of Crown Point six grandchildren: Jamie Karie and Kristyn Larsen David Jacob and Caleb Bartos extended family Jamie Richard and Dylan Hagan faithful friend Tom Boyle of Merrillville sister-in-law Stella Noak of Crown Point many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents Anton and Grace Bartos brothers Peter and Tony Bartos sisters Ann Rappatta and Marion Kupka. John was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church Crown Point and a former member of St. Casimir Catholic Church Tolleston. He was a retired supervisor from Standard Forge with 33 years of service and from U.S. Steel with 15 years of service. He was a World War II Army veteran having served in Italy and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was a member of the DAV past Commander of American Legion Post #289 where he was an active member for 59 years. John was a graduate of Tolleston High School Class of 1937. He loved sports and playing golf with his friends from the Legion in his early years. Friends may call at Pruzin & Little Funeral Service 811 East Franciscan Drive (on State Road 55 south of State Road 231) Crown Point Tuesday May 19 2009 from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. Legion Service at 6:30 p.m. Funeral service will be Wednesday May 20 2009 at 12:00 Noon from Pruzin & Little Chapel and 12:30 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church 321 E. Joliet St. Crown Point with Rev. Patrick Kalich officiating. Services will conclude at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Anthony Hospice or the American Kidney Foundation.
