JOHN ANTHONY LICHENIAK age 88 of Crown Point passed away Sunday March 1 2009 at St. Anthony Home. He was born in Gary Indiana on May 16 1920 to Edward and Alexandra Licheniak. Survived by his children: Jane Licheniak of Crown Point Carol (Michael) Gianfrancesco of Hatfield PA Sharon Briggs Hart of Sweet Home OR grandchildren: Christy (David) Diehl Amy and Brian Gianfrancesco Sean Briggs Jeffrey Briggs Billy and David Hart great grandchildren: Mary Faye Briggs Andrew and Alexandra Diehl sisters-in-law: Elizabeth Drabik Helen (Michael) Sopko Margaret Demeter many nieces nephews godchildren and good friends. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years Mary Rose one brother Edmund sisters: Cecelia Jasiak Angeline Dymanowski Sophie Licheniak Helen Kucharski parents. John was a longtime member of St. Mary Catholic Church Crown Point He was a retired employee of the Gary Screw & Bolt Corporation where he worked in the shipping department. In his youth he attended Sacred Heart Parish and School Gary was a graduate of Tolleston High School and attended Gary City College. John was a World War II veteran who proudly served in Europe. He was a member of American Legion Post 20 Crown Point a former member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Polish Roman Catholic Union of America. He also received philanthropic recognition from the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island Foundation. John is lovingly remembered by family and friends for his strong faith selflessness humor and generosity. He was affectionately referred to as Smileybecause he always had his great smile on his face. Friends may call at Pruzin & Little Funeral Service 811 East Franciscan Drive (on State Road 55 south of State Road 231) Crown Point Wednesday March 4 2009 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a Legion service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be Thursday March 5 2009 at 9:30 a.m. from Pruzin & Little Chapel and 10:00 a.m. from St. Mary Catholic Church 321 Joliet Street Crown Point with Rev. Patrick Kalich officiating At rest Calvary Cemetery Portage.
