Joanne L. Zallas, age 79, of Michigan City, went to be with the Lord on January 29, 2010 to be with her mother Leona and little brother Johnny. A private committal of ashes will be held at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery. Joanne was born November 15, 1930 in Michigan City, Indiana to Michael J. and Leona H. (Michaels) Zallas, both who preceded in death. Surviving are her children Patsy and Dewayne Wingard. Nieces, Jody (Terry) Schultz and Paula (Tony) Nieman, and Amy Zallas of Michigan City. Also Great nephews, Ryan and Chad Schultz, and Zachary, Jordan and Noah Nieman. Also, numerous other nieces and nephews. Also surviving , her sister Maxine Keitzman of Michigan City, good friend Sally Clapp, and her best companion “cuddles”. She was preceded in death by her brother John Zallas and her sister Margorie Zallas. Joanne was a sewing machine operator for FSI for over 7 years. She enjoyed her work tremendously that she would also sew at home. She loved designing and sewing clothes for her friends and family. She was a loving and devoted sister and aunt and will be greatly missed by those who knew her. A special thank you for the caregivers of 5th floor continuing care center of LaPorte Hospital.
