Jeanette Misicko, formerly of East Chicago and Highland, IN, passed away at home on December 29th, 2023 and has now discovered the mysteries of life. She is now with our Lord and Savior in Heaven.
Jeanette was the much loved daughter born to Pete and Kate Sciotto in East Chicago, IN on August 7, 1937. Jeanette and her husband, Joe Misicko renewed their marriage vows September 4, 2004 on Joe’s 70th birthday. She attended Harrison Elementary School and graduated from East Chicago Roosevelt High School in 1955, received her teaching degree and Master’s degree with honors from Indiana University. She taught and delighted in the company of kindergarten, pre-school, and Head Start children for the School City of Hammond for 35 years.
Even though educating children was a highlight in her life, her true passion was her family. She was a devoted daughter, wife and a loving mother, grandmother, and aunt. Mrs. Misicko was a member of Gloria Dei Church in Highland for 59 years. She served and volunteered in many ways. Jeanette was president of Delta Kappa Gamma, Beta Delta Chapter, of which she was president for four years. She was an Indiana Lifetime PTA Member. She and her husband Joe were extensive world travelers. They traveled to 35 countries making friends along the way. The highlight of her travels was her trip with Joe and Cindy to connect with her extended Italian family .Jeanette really enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s musical and sports events, reading, listening to all kinds of music, and walking.
Surviving to mourn Jeanette’s passing while she waits for them is Heaven are her three devoted children: Rebecca (George) Tutto, Cynthia (James) Kleinmeyer, and Joseph P. Misicko (Susan) ; three cherished and much loved grandchildren: Mitchell Misicko, Matthew Tutto, and Emma Misicko. Jeanette is also survived by her devoted sister; Mary Anne (late John) Nuss, caring and loving niece, Cheryl (Robert) Balczo, and nephew, Eric (Kellie) Nuss and their wonderful children, niece and nephews of Sister-in law: Shirley Yurkanon’s (deceased) Jimmy, Anne Marie, and Michael as well as many other dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Waiting to greet her in Heaven are her husband Joseph, parents: Pete and Kate Sciotto, in-laws Joseph and Stephanie Misicko, brother-in-laws John Nuss and William Misicko, Sister-in-law Shirley Yurkanon’s and her beloved dog Ellie.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, January 5, 2023, at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre, 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN 46307 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 6, 2023 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 3711 Ridge Rd., Highland, IN 46322, with Pastor Dave Adams officiating. Interment to follow at Concordia Cemetery in Hammond, IN. Reception to follow internment and will be announced at church.
In lieu of flowers, the legacy of Jeanette would be well served by donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or Humane Indiana.
