Janet Alyea Sheetz, of Hebron, IN, born November 6, 1930 to Edmond and Golda Thatcher Alyea in Hebron, passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at the VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso, IN. She is survived by her 3 Children: Pat W. Sheetz of Hebron, IN, Peggy A. Max Schaffer of Bay Village, OH, Perry D. Michelle Sheetz of Hebron, IN; 6 grandchildren: Lindy Schaffer, Bryce Schaffer, Jasmine Sheetz, Alissa Sheetz, Daniel Sheetz, and Lucas Sheetz; brother: Raymond Alyea of Hebron, IN. Preceded in death by husband: William sister: Helen Wolford Chambers and brother: Paul Alyea. Funeral Services will be held Monday, February 23, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Geisen Funeral Home, Hebron with Pastor Douglas Barber officiating. Interment at Hebron Cemetery in Hebron, IN. Visitation will be held at the Geisen Funeral Home, 624 N. Main, Hebron, IN on Sunday, February 22, 2009 from 3:00 to 8:00 PM. Janet graduated from Hebron High School, Class of 1948 and attended the Hebron United Methodist Church. Janet married William on March 17, 1950 in Hebron, IN. She was active in the PTA for many years, Hebron Jr. Woman's Club, and the Hebron American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed doing yard work and other outdoor activities, such as boating on the Kankakee River, camping and traveling. One of the highlights of her travels was traveling with her husband, Bill, on their motorcycles for several summers, visiting all of the lower 48 states and enjoying ever mile of seeing the great old USA. She also took several cruises on the Delta Queen paddlewheel steamboat on the Mississippi River, Ohio River, and Tennessee River. Another highlight in her life was an anniversary gift from the Schaffer's, a hot air balloon ride. In her later years, she gave up the more strenuous activities and traveled by way of a motorhome. Over the years besides being a mother and homemaker, she did assessment work, worked at a laundry and dry cleaning establishment and owned and operated her own school bus for 12 years.
