James M. Vallas, age 79, of Munster, IN, passed away on Sunday, June 6, 2010. James is survived his wife, Helen Kravas-Vallas; daughter, Lisa Andy Gravrilos, Pittsburg; granddaughter, Doreen Rick Paese, Houston; grandson, Michael Andrew Gravrilos, Boston; brother-in-law, Bill Shey Kravas, Portage; niece, Laurie Paul Soares, Portage; nephew, Chris Kayla Kravas, Wheaton, IL; 2 great-nephews: Alex & Jacob Kravas; great-niece, Tara Juliet Kravas and great-nephew and godson, William Soares. He is preceded in death by parents, Despina and Michael Vallas; late wife, Helen Vallas. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 11, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Ss. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 8000 Madison St., Merrillville, IN, with Rev. Theodore Poteres & Rev. Christ Margellos officiating. Interment at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Gary, IN. Friends may visit with the family at Geisen Funeral Home, 7905 Broadway, Merrillville, IN on Thursday, June 10, 2010 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM with a Trisagion service at 5:00 PM and an American Legion Service at 5:30. James was a graduate of Northeastern University Shool of Pharmacy in Massachusetts. He was a Korean War Army veteran and a member of the American Legion Schererville Post 485. He retired from St. Anthony and Methodist Hospital Pharmacies and enjoyed working part time at Vyto's Pharmacy. In lieu of flowers donations in James name may be given to The Helping Hand Fund or The Ross Township Food Pantry.
