James F. Demetrakis, age 87, of St. John, IN, passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2022. James F. Demetrakis, age 87, of St. John, IN, passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2022.
James is survived by his daughter, Amy (Mark) See; grandchildren: Aiden and Emma ; daughter-in-law, Nicole Demetrakis; nieces and nephews: Spiro Iraclianos, Kathy (Steve) Chacho, Nick (Nancy) Demetrakis, Faye Pomianowski; and many family members in Greece.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Stamatia J. Demetrakis; son, Philip Demetrakis; parents: Phillipos and Ermioni Demetrakis; brother, John Demetrakis; and sister, Linda “Atalanti” (Ted) Iraclianos.
James retired in 1997 from U.S. Steel after 30 years of service. He was a devoted member of Ss. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral and the Chios Society. James enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family. James was very giving and a had a caring heart.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, June 17, 2022, at Ss. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 8000 Madison St., Merrillville, IN 46410 from 10:00 AM until the time of funeral service at 10:30 AM with Fr. Ted Poteres and Fr. Dimitri Burikas, officiating.
Interment to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in James’s name to Ss. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral or the Hospice of the Calumet Area.
