Lois Benson left a message on June 3, 2010:
To Jim's Family, What a joy and privelege it was to get to know Jim as a member of the Florida Arts Council. He was a true gentleman and passionate about the arts. He laughed with obvious warmth about the sacrifices his family made for his service as chair. It seemed all of our meetings fell on family birthdays or anniversaries. We will all miss him as I know you will as well. In deepest sympathy, Lois Benson

Dear Sandy and kids, We were so very sorry to hear of Jim's untimely death. I was very much looking forward to seeing you and only wish now that we had set an earlier date. I will miss Jim as I have in the years since his retirement. He had a profound impact on my life, as he had on so very many others. Although the twinkle in his eyes is now gone he will long be fondly remembered. Please know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers. We wish that we could be with you on the 15th but will be there in spirit. My only consolation is that Jim has now found peace. God Bless you and take care of you in these difficult moments. Best Personal Regards ... Judy & Frank
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

Dear Sandy and Family, Please accept my heart felt condolences in this saddest of times. Our community has benefited from Jim's vision and faith in the future. Some folks occupy space on the planet; others shape destiny. Jim was one for making the world a better place for all of us. He will be missed. The good and positive things he has set in motion will serve as a living memorial and testimony to his belief in the possibilities inherent in living life to its fullest. We here on Amelia Island mourn his passing and celebrate his existence...With Warmest Regards, Ron

I will miss my Arts Council pal. Jim was a wonderful Chairman; courteous, consistent, knowledgeable and humorous. His passion for the arts was authentic and he never hesitated speaking his mind when needed. And when he did speak everyone listened. He simply was a rare individual. Go with Christ. Shaw Family, I am so sorry to hear of Jim's passing and realize this is difficult time for you all. I have known few people who were as generous, consistent, genuine, and who always seemed to assume the best of others as Jim. He impacted my life and the lives of so many others for the better. Shaw Family, Jim hired me in 1962 as a salesman. I worked for him for 17 years. Safe to say that I would not be where I am or have what I have if it weren't for the start that Jim gave me. I pray that he has found the peace in Christ Jesus that we all seek.
