James D. Schmidt, age 74, of Demotte, IN. passed away on Thursday April 16, 2009. He is survived by 2 daughters: Georgine Rick Owens and Yvonne Davis both of Rensselaer, IN. 2 Grandchildren: Brooke Davis and Kevin Owens 3 Step-Grandchildren 11 Step-Great Grandchildren 2 Sisters: Cora Hughes of Hobart & Ann Cameron Beeler of Valparaiso Brother: Earl Maria Schmidt of Portage Preceded in death by his wife- Patricia; son-Dean and 2 Brothers-Robert & Richard Schmidt Funeral Services will be held on Monday April 20, 2009 at 1:30 PM at Geisen Funeral Home-Merrillville with Msgr. Robert L. Sell officiating. Interment at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN. Visitation will be held at Geisen Funeral Home, 7905 Broadway, Merrillville, IN on Sunday, April 19, 2009 from 2:00 to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 4:00 PM Jim was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Plumbers Union #210 and the Roselawn American Legion Post #238. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Jim was also a member of the Popo's Club in Thayer. Jim will be missed very much by us. He was a good neighbor and friend. Ron will miss the times he and Jim would talk about everything and anything.
