James Douglas Coder, 72, of Crown Point, Indiana formerly of Plainfield, Indiana passed away peacefully
April 12, 2024. He is survived by his son Cory Coder (Kari) of Crown Point, IN , daughter Nikole
Montgomery of Phoenix, AZ. Grandchildren Mason and Hudson Montgomery, Isabella and Maximillian

James, affectionately known as “Gump” by his grandchildren spent his childhood in Hartford City, IN and
over 25 years as a car salesman for McIntire Chevrolet in Indianapolis, IN. He loved his mom’s cooking,
Jimmy Buffet and taking his children to car races and basketball games.
James spent his retirement years with his grandchildren, enjoying weekly trips to the library and getting milkshakes. He watched his
youngest grandchild take his first steps and went to every school program he could. He never missed an
episode of Jeopardy, loved crossword puzzles, had the best head of curly hair and never saw a poker
game he wouldn’t join.
James will be remembered for his truly good heart, generous soul and quick wit. We will miss him
dearly.
