HILDA M. GALLARDO, age 83 of Portage, passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2019. HILDA M. GALLARDO, age 83 of Portage, passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2019.
She is survived by her five children: Arturo Gallardo, Jr., Sandra Gallardo, Laura Gallardo, David (Deanna) Gallardo, Aaron Gallardo; nine grandchildren: Tony, Brittany, Alex, Jordan, Kami, Brandon, Sierra, Ariana, Anthony; great-grandson Francisco; sister Alicia Leal; and her many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Arturo Gallardo; sister Margarita Cerna; parents Fernando & Mercedes Chavez.
Mrs. Gallardo was a member of Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church and was a retired clerical worker from St. Mary’s Mercy Hospital in Gary with 25 years of service. Hilda was a very strong, loving mother, whom always put her family first. She was also a great and giving grandmother who will be missed by all.
Family and friends may gather at Pruzin Brothers Funeral Service (2700 Willowcreek Road, Portage) on Friday, February 8, 2019 from 10:30 A.M. – 12:30 P.M. A Funeral Mass will follow starting at 12:30 P.M. from Pruzin Brothers Chapel and 1:00 P.M. from Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church (2949 Willowcreek Road, Portage) with Rev. David Gosnell officiating. At rest Calvary Cemetery.

I lost myself when I lost my Mom
People always say, “It gets better after time passes by.”
So far at this point it has only gotten worse. There are moments when it seems that I will be OK. But those moments occur only when I sleep.
There is not a day that goes by that I don’t think of the fact that someone that I loved with all my heart, that I tried my so hard to take care of is gone. Why? Why my Mom!
Being strong is just seen on the outside. My heart is crying on the inside, wishing, hoping and praying that God would give me another chance to turn back time.
Is this a nightmare?
Will someone please wake me up and tell me it is not so!
With my mother’s passing, the person who brought me into the world left it,
Leaving an empty void in me. It has become so hard to live without the one and only person that I loved with all my heart and who loved me unconditionally.
I am running out of strength
